Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments did not extend the contracts on temporary and occasional jobs to conservators Tihomir Dičić and Svetlana Vukadinović.
The official explanation is that the Republic Institute is in a difficult financial situation. However, there is another and very possible explanation.
"Among the employees of the RZZSK who signed the request to the Ministry of Culture this April for the dismissal of acting director Goran Vasić, only my colleague and I were with a PP contract," he told "Vreme". Tihomir Dicic.
The Ministry punishes
"At that time, it was brought to our attention that there would be consequences due to the signature, but the matter became complicated when, by the decision of the TOK, the director was forbidden to approach the witnesses in the investigative procedure of the case from May General Staff, so that's why he didn't come to the Republic Institute."
Tihomir Dičić, an architect by training, says that he completed the reconstruction project of the northern wall of the monastery of St. Nicholas in Banja near Priboj "for which reconstruction is planned next year. Given that I was working on the project, I was supposed to be a conservation supervisor during the reconstruction, so it is illogical that they did not extend my contract".
His colleague Svetlana Vukadinović, whose PP contract was also not extended, worked at the Manasija monastery and her knowledge, as an older colleague, was valuable to the younger ones at the Republic Institute.
I don't mind.
And what will he do now? "For the time being, I managed, I will return to the bureau where I used to work. Director Vasić mentioned that he has my phone and that he will call me from March if the difficult situation in the Institute changes," says Tihomir Dičić.
"It's not my fault, the fight we waged produced results. While in other state institutions we have individuals who fight against harmful decisions of the government, here we have almost the entire team and I am honored to have been part of it," Tihomir Dičić believes.
By the way, Tihomir Dičić and Iva Njunjić, young architects, represented Serbia in Venice at the 18th Architecture Biennale in 2023. Their setup was based on the project of the Fair in Lagos by the Yugoslav architect Zoran Bojović from the 70s of the 20th century, which was then a symbol of the new multinational state and independence, and today is a hypermarket for trade with West Africa.
He is one of the activists. who advocate for the preservation of the Košutnjak forest.
