Ministry of Culture of Serbia announced a competition for financing and co-financing of projects in the field of culture and art for Expo 2027, while the Expo invited all artists, cultural associations and creators to participate.
Bojana Karajović, a member of the Culture Council of the Expo 2027 company, but also the director of the Small Theater "Duško Radović", pointed out that Expo 2027 places culture as one of the central contents of the specialized exhibition.
The competition promotes cooperation.
She explained that the focus is not only on the presentation of art, but also on the social impact of culture. The contest promotes international and local cooperation, innovation and inclusion through cultural programs, and the ultimate goal of the contest is to select the most representative cultural practices from the premises that will be presented to the world as part of the main program of the specialized exhibition."
"We want this competition to be an open platform for the entire cultural and artistic scene of Serbia, where all applicants have an equal chance to become part of the Expo 2027 Belgrade program with their ideas," concluded Karajović.
Who will respond?
The offer is, therefore, addressed to the entire scene, but it is hard to believe that they will be responded to, judging by the reactions so far.
Namely, Expo has already invited artists and associations to become part of the exhibition program, to come and agree on cooperation. In principle, to talk, nothing concrete. As far as is known, the associations did not even respond to such an invitation, which should be understood as a refusal, while The independent cultural scene of Serbia in an open letter suggesting that Expo return the money that was diverted from the culture budget.
Of course, there is no reason to fear that the Expo will run out of participants - judging by who gives money in the name of culture, this country is full of those who are convinced that they are made for music, theater, art and everything in order.
All of them can apply for the competition for the Expo from May 29 to July 10, according to the conditions set by the Ministry of Culture. It also says that competition proposals can be from different artistic fields: music, film and audio-visual creativity, theater, literature, artistic performance, street art, visual arts, digital creativity, architecture, performance, as well as the cultural heritage of Serbia.
From half to eight million dinars
For individual projects, funding from at least 500.000 to a maximum of 8.000.000 dinars per project is provided.
The stated premiums are significantly higher than those obtained at the tenders announced by the Ministry of Culture for the financing/co-financing of cultural projects.
Also, this item is not mentioned in the ministry's tenders, nor is the total budget that the cultural sector will receive (music creation, theater, publishing...) - the amount is disclosed only at the end, together with the results.
It is assumed that the Expo will create a program based on the selected projects in this competition. Do we need to remind you that folklore dominates among those selected in the recently concluded competition of the Secretariat for Culture?
