Last night, the last evening Sterijinog pozorje (June 2) in Novi Sad, while waiting for the jury's decision on the winners, the police entered the foyer of the Serbian National Theater.
This disturbed those present, and the video about it, which appeared on social networks and then in the media, and - the public.
It was a regular patrol.
The police allegedly explained that they had received a tip-off about the gathering, so they came to check, which the attendees connected with the discussion at the just-held round table about the play. Humor Center where there was talk about Jova's high school.
Miroslav Radonjic, the director of Steria's theater tells "Vreme" that it was an "ordinary patrol".
"Every year, for decades, the Sterija Theater reports to the police that a festival is being held and that there will be many people there, including dignitaries including the diplomatic corps. We also report to the traffic police, because during the festival, trucks with scenography and more vehicles than usual will come to the building of the Serbian National Theater. Accordingly, the police send a patrol every year. So this is a regular procedure. I remember that one year, because of a few a noisier cocktail party after the show, warned us to be quieter. That's how it was now. So last night, no police raided the SNP, but only the most ordinary patrol."
The jury was not in the theater building
The video shows that there were two policemen in the theater foyer.
Miroslav Radonjić considers the comments on the networks that the police came to influence the work of the jury by their presence meaningless "because the jury never sits in the SNP, but in the Directorate of Police in Zmaj Jovina Street".
"I can't believe that no one noticed that Sterija's theater was held, that they congratulate us because we managed to hold it despite everything that followed it for the last two years, or because we had crowded and excellent performances, but everyone is just sensational," says Radonjić.
The video does not record the statement of the police that they entered the Serbian National Theater because of the rally, and Miroslav Radonjić does not know about it because at that time he was in the directorate where the jury was.
