Four hours before the start, management National Theatre announced that it is canceling tonight's performance "The Great Drama", for which the tickets were sold out a few days ago, and which the theater was supposed to open after three weeks.
It is humiliating both the audience and the employees.
Next notice on October 29
On the theater's website, in the news in which the management informed the public that it had taken all the necessary steps to repair the deficiencies in fire protection, which allegedly caused it to close the building on October 3, it is written that "it is expected that after October 29 (conditionally during the public procurement procedure), guidelines and deadlines will be more clearly defined regarding the continuation of the regular repertory season."
And yet, considering that all performances until November 8 have been cancelled, it seems as if it is already known that the mentioned deadline will be postponed.
It also says that the premiere of the ballet "Don Quixote" has been postponed until the end of the year. Let's remind you, it was planned for November 7. The choreographer of this ballet is José Martínez, the director of the Paris Opera Ballet, with whom the cooperation was announced back in January, and whose free dates were awaited long before that.
The employees say that they are not surprised that they received this announcement right before the start of the performance, they remind that it was the same on October 3, when the Ministry of Culture and the administration announced that the National Theater was closing for three weeks.
They also say that they are trying to find out what stage the works are in, which is why the building is closed.
An example of a pest business
From the latest news on the National Theatre's website, it is possible to find out that for these three weeks "evacuation routes were cleared and cleaned, which significantly increased the level of safety of employees", and that the National Theater "entered into the public procurement procedure of the fire protection system check service, which implies compliance with prescribed procedures and time frames established by law."
That's why we're waiting for October 29th, and that's why performances until November 8th have been canceled just in case.
Unofficial news that the Directorate of Drama has scheduled guest appearances in Serbia and Belgrade theaters during November and December has been made official in this news. Why would it be hosted on other stages, unless the opening of the building is planned by the end of the year?
"This is just another example of incompetent, harmful business, the neglect of cultural institutions that are extremely important for the citizens of Serbia, the mistreatment of employees and the audience who deserve better management of the National Theater, the Ministry of Culture, which is really doing its job and for which they demand their irrevocable resignations," says the Drama ensemble.
The National Theater is one of the most respected institutions in the country. Therefore, one would expect him to announce how much financial loss occurred during and due to the closing of the building, how much money was lost due to returned and unsold tickets, due to the cancellation of the guest appearance of world star Segre Polunin in the ballet "Bayadera", how much it costs to move performances to other stages in order to maintain the appearance that the National Theater is working, and so on.
