The Old Post Office building designed by Momir Korunović, one of the most beautiful in the city, last January it was demolished to the ground, with the intention of making the same one, only better, in its place. It will be the new Cultural Center, including the Archaeological Museum, the first in Serbia, two theater stages with a cafe, and a library.
What was promised?
Construction began at the beginning of last year, and it seems that it will be completed by the end of this year, as promised by ministers Siniša Mali and Nikola Selaković, and by the financier "Belgrade on the water" - just in time for the Expo.
However, what interests the citizens of Belgrade the most, and possibly the only thing about this new building, is whether it will look like the old one, whether it will have a beautiful Korunović facade, as promised by President Vučić and other authorities.
"The post office will be returned to its original appearance, as designed by Momir Korunović, and it will house the Archaeological Museum," repeated President Vučić during his visits to Belgrade on the water.

The original Korunović facade from 1929 on the former Post Office building in Savska was preserved under the one built after the Second World War. And yet, "Belgrade on the water" demolished the entire building, and he promised that the building would be "returned to its recognizable splendor from before the Second World War. Thus, Belgrade will once again have one of the most beautiful pre-war buildings, which was often found on postcards of the Serbian capital. Many consider the Palace of the Post Office number two to be the best work of the architect who created the contemporary Serbian-Byzantine style."
Bojan Kovačević
Architect Bojan Kovačević, a passionate chronicler of Belgrade architecture, wrote the following text on the occasion:
"It is but it is not, it is not and it is, but it is not, although it looks like it... and so on, with a hundred questions."
Someone's love for antiquity, even the so-called Serbian-Byzantine style, and Korunović's always sad fate... and so on. The physical reality, perhaps harsh German philosophers would say, is that concrete was poured on the edge of Sava Square, the area where the Station is but is no longer (a station), the Historical Museum of Serbia is hardly standing there anymore, the platforms are gone, the Korunović Post does not receive and delivers mail, the appearance of the Korunović Post, whose inner side towards the platforms can no longer be irrelevant because the platforms have slipped, and so on...
And that authentic building, indeed with an elaborate architectural syntax as the true heir of the Serbian medieval Moravian style, was partially demolished in 1944 at the latest, I guess, after the end of the Second World War, it was altered by the communists by arch. Pavle Krat, on some known occasions an associate of Brašovan, therefore not serious in the guild.
Now the deep malignancy of Belgrade on the water is being decorated with the Mabuzevian reincarnation of the Post Office with some ten contents and functions, we will see if the identical facade insignia of the state, which apart from us, is then formed by some Croats and Slovenes.
Ergo it will be but it won't be, it won't and it will, but it still won't, although it will look like.... Even the genius from Trebinje, if he was a truck driver, Vučurović would not have baptized her better than when he mentioned Dubrovnik.
And Momir? What does Momir Korunović know, what is being planted in Belgrade under his name. Heritage or vanity, it's all about one letter."
