If the problem is Kosova for almost forty years (counting the communist period and longer) present in the collective consciousness of the Serbian community; if Kosovo is the subject of mythologizing, not rational discussion; if the nationalist political elites bloodily abused it - Slobodan Milošević, who de facto created Kosovo, Vojislav Koština, who slandered and additionally mythologized it ("Kosovo is the heart of Serbia"), and Aleksandar Vučić (with the help of Ivica Dacic) did everything to integrate into the Kosovo system; if nationalist propaganda has been deceiving citizens for decades that Kosovo is part of Serbia (which it is not); if the political elites timidly announce themselves, and no one, literally no one, says that the actual and formal return of Kosovo under the control of Serbia is possible only in the way that the problem of Palestine is solved by the Israeli state led by Benjamin Netanyahu: that is, by a war in which the Serbs would attack the Kosovar Albanians and stage a quality genocide; If, therefore, this is so, if Kosovo plays such an important role in the collective imaginary, it is completely impossible to leave Kosovo aside in political speech.
And the student movement did not leave him aside. He announced himself in a way that is not pleasant to the citizen's ear - as it would be when, for the most part, we are talking about phrases that Slobodan Milosevic used almost forty years ago - but it is effective.
How Vučić fell silent
To what extent it is effective is perhaps best shown by the heavy silence of one who does not stop chattering about whatever comes to his mind. After his usual first reaction was to lash out, he remained silent.
The president of all citizens must not comment on the student memorandum because any advertising in that direction would, right, return like a boomerang, directly to his forehead: but what did you, my friend, do in the previous 14 years in which you were everything, except that you traded the lives of Kosovo Serbs and the territory for personal power (thus robbing the citizens of Serbia)? There is no answer to that question "hourly chatter" (as Božo Koprivica nicely called it).
And what do citizens and students think?
What the citizens of Serbia think about the problem of Kosovo - it is not easy to say because there is a lack of serious research, but if we rely on the logic and the effect of the regime's propaganda, we can assume that the overwhelming majority still believe that the territory and the remaining Serbian life should be fought for (they do not know, however, in what way, it does not occur to them, for example, that Serbia's advocacy for Kosovo to enter the European Union would be the most effective way of fighting for the Serbs in Kosovo, but let's leave the methods aside...).
To that extent, there are no strong reasons to believe that the student population thinks differently, and it is the student population Memorandum, probably an expression of the prevailing opinion among young people. But we should not overlook article three of the memorandum either: "As a mature and historical nation, we are aware that the issue of Kosovo and Metohija cannot be resolved in isolation, but only within the complex flows of the international community."
This is the only article of the memorandum filled with some content (the rest are empty, tired slogans that have worn out from use and vanity, but are recognizable and understandable to citizens who live in the national imaginary) and is quite enough to blow away the idiotic slogan "When the army returns to Kosovo".
So, everything and that he is honest, everything and that the majority of young people really think that Kosovo can be returned under the control of Serbia, the Memorandum is above all an extraordinary tactical move that takes away from the "hourly chatter" the topic on which he rode almost all the time. And an important topic.
It has already been said that the regime can hardly be overthrown without right-leaning citizens (ie the majority).
With this move, the student movement further encouraged them to turn away from the one who, factually and formally, sacrificed the Kosovo Serbs and the territory solely for the sake of himself and his group of robbers.
