In the general deadlock of our current political scene, it seems that the increased spread of fear of the future not only discourages citizens but also confuses all political actors. The president of the state, instead of reassuring the citizens with his (rare) appearance, prepares them for the execution of yet unknown political decisions with salvos of caring news. It seems that, by nurturing helplessness, we are turning into a society with special needs. Then it is logical that we call on someone to solve the problem, and then it is our fault when he does not solve them as we would like! And to be honest, we don't even know what to do...
An issue that we thought had completely disappeared since the fall of the Berlin Wall to this day is being pointed out. It is a question of political determination and the final political determination of Serbia. Many people find it ridiculous to even think about returning to questions about Serbia's non-alignment and neutrality.
With the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the nuanced policy of gentle assurances and diplomatic incentives of Western countries is withdrawn, and a black and white policy comes into force towards Serbia.
The story about two chairs on which Serbia is sitting and has to choose one has intensified. The problem is not in deciding, but in the one - the must.
Threats: will you freeze or be hungry, in which we recognize ourselves as objects of fate of complete dependence on one or the other 'chair'. And the point is not to abolish the freedom of cooperation with everyone, no matter how fairy-tale it sounds at the moment.
The citizens of Serbia, as well as many political organizations, are fundamentally and unquestionably determined for Serbia's entry into the EU, and the long period of negotiations and the obvious postponement of admission until the distant future demotivated and disappointed them. An additional burden is the idea of admitting Ukraine over the line, which indicates the possibility of ad hoc adjustment of the rules. But what we all know doesn't even require any new research: that with a little additional European involvement, trust and EU enthusiasm can be restored very quickly.
Joining the EU means accepting common rules and policies. Until then, Serbia is 'non-aligned', not as a member of a dead movement, but as someone who, in a good spirit of non-alignment, could help in negotiations and conflict resolution.
Today is May 9, Europe Day and Victory over Fascism Day. The day when the world moved from uniform thinking and action to freedom and common space.
