Based on the media coverage, it was possible to conclude that some very dramatic things are happening on Tuesday, the center of which was the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić. It was suspected that this could have something to do with the whole range of problems related to the crisis stemming from the Russian invasion of Ukraine, so by Pristina's refusal to allow Serbs to vote in the Serbian elections on April 3 in Kosovo, and in Podgorica they would determine where Serbs can vote in elections held in Serbia.
It was learned that the President rushed from a meeting with the ambassadors of the Quinte (Great Britain, France, Italy, Germany and the USA), to special meetings with the ambassador of the Russian Federation and the Chinese chargé d'affaires in Belgrade, to talks with representatives of Serbs from Kosovo, and from there to an urgent meeting National Security Council, maybe not in that order, but with the Serbs from Kosovo at least twice.
It wasn't until late in the evening that the president addressed the people live in front of TV cameras to explain what it was really about. The people finally found out that additional quantities of milk powder, oil and gas have been secured and that all war reserves have been completed, although Serbia will not go to war, but it will be found.
And then it got down to business: Pristina is blackmailing Serbia into allowing Serbs to vote in Kosovo in Serbian elections only if Belgrade recognizes Kosovo's independence. That's what Vucic said. Afterwards, he said that the Pristina authorities were actually asking that "the Government of Serbia ask the Government of Kosovo" to make all of this possible, which I guess means: that Pristina is literally asking for Serbia to recognize Kosovo.
Quinta criticized the Pristina authorities, praised the constructiveness of Belgrade, and then stated that the EU now expects Kosovo and Serbia to refrain from actions and rhetoric that could increase tensions, and calls on both sides to behave responsibly and engage constructively in the ongoing negotiations. within the dialogue.
In that spirit, Vučić asked the Serbs from Kosovo, who are already so angry because of the institutional violence in Kosovo that they are ready for anything, and who only trust him, to calm down.
And then, in his own spirit, he accused Zagreb, Sarajevo, Pristina and "parts" of Podgorica of leading a coordinated action against Serbia with the aim of drawing it into conflicts, portraying it as "civilizationally anti-Western" and provoking it to, if we wish, some more impose sanctions.
There is a detail underlined in red in all of this, a diplomatic accent which, in the situation of a historical conflict between the West and Russia, in which China has not yet decided, gains particular weight, and which Vučić may not have been aware of, but acted on conviction and inertia: on an equal footing with the ambassadors of the Quinte, i.e. EU member states and the USA, the president of Serbia gave a report on the problem he is facing and consulted with the ambassador of Russia, which is under severe European and American sanctions, and chargé d'affaires of China. He also boasted that the Chinese immediately informed Beijing.
If the President's goal was for Western countries, which, unlike Russia and China, can exert more pressure on Pristina, he weakened Serbia's position because he again reminded of its non-alignment and that it is not fully committed to Euro-Atlantic integration.
If the overriding goal was not for the EU and the US to put pressure on Pristina, then it was to create additional tensions with the hope that this would benefit his presidential campaign and the SNS campaign as a whole.
It seems that Vučić still hasn't realized that sitting on two chairs is leading Serbia to a dead end, and for the Serbs in Kosovo, to put it mildly, it makes life difficult to the limit of endurance.
