An election spot in which Aleksandar Vučić comes out of the fridge was meant to be witty and self-deprecating. But it's not a little. It is just another arrogant mockery of parliamentarism and the elementary idea of fair and honest elections. Because until Vučić really emerges from the "oven and iron", the candidates for mayor of Belgrade and president of the Republic -Vladeta Janković i Zdravko Ponoš - they are standing in front of the Zira Hotel holding a press conference.
Why? Because, says Janković, the hotel management canceled their pre-paid and written appointment for the forum, and this is the sixth such case in Belgrade alone. The message could not be simpler: it is known for whom the last camera and the last microphone in Serbia are, and for whom there is no place even in the space that pays for itself. Hotel Zira and the like are free to hang the sign "We do not serve the opposition of cowardice".
Anyone from the outside, ignorant of the situation in Serbia, might be able to guess that there are elections in the country, but not what kind. Does Vučić want to break the Guinness record for the number of minutes played on television by jumping out of the refrigerator? Is he competing for president, patriarch, national team coach and popularity master at the same time? And has the opposition in Serbia fallen to the level it has under Putin in Russia, so that its pre-election rallies are a criminal offense in themselves?
The point is this: having occupied every available refrigerator, Vučić threatens, intimidates, promises, praises himself, complains, dramatizes, creates a parallel reality... But he is ready for everything, except for confrontation with political opponents on equal terms. The problem is not that he personally likes to listen to his own voice so much, but that the citizens of Serbia cannot hear anyone else's. With his refrigerator monomania, Vučić tells them that they have no alternative.
That progressive reality, from which all hope dies, was additionally strengthened by placing on the SNS parliamentary list distinguished figures from the worlds of medicine, science, culture, sports... Listening to those professionally accomplished persons condescendingly utter half-tron speeches in honor of the man from the refrigerator worthy of the Youth Academy the leader produces a pure shame transfer. And when it comes to arrogance, nothing really separates them anymore.
It is not possible to interpret the sentence of dr Danica Grujičić to prove to her that during the pandemic, doctors died of covid. With the same cynicism, she could have asked for evidence of landing people on the moon... We see the differences between these two "arguments".
The citizens of Serbia have an alternative. If they don't use it in the elections, when it comes out of the refrigerator and slams the door, they will stay in it. And there will be nothing but a cold wasteland - moral, civilizational, economic and every other.
