Dragan Labović, former basketball player of the Serbian national team, died at the age of 39. The information was confirmed by the Basketball Federation of Serbia
"With great sadness, Basketball Association of Serbia received the news that our former representative Dragan Labović left us too soon. The Basketball Federation of Serbia expresses its sincerest condolences to the family," reads the statement published on the KSS website.
Dragan Labović will be buried on Monday, May 12, 2025 at 12.00:XNUMX p.m. at the city cemetery in Prokuplje.
Who was Dragan Labović?
Dragan Labović was born in Prokuplje on April 20, 1987. He started his junior career in Zdravlje, and moved early as a great talent to FMP, for which he performed from 2003 to 2010.
Then he was a member of the Greek Aris, the German teams Skyliners and Frankfurt, the Russian Yenisei, Krasnaya Kril, Nizhny Novgorod, the Polish Kozalin, the Turkish Aliaga, he also played for Al Riyadh, Asesoft Ploesti, Istanbul, Karposh Sokole, Nokia...
Labović played one of the key seasons as a loaned player from FMP Železnik in Borac, then his coach in Čačak was Milovan Stepandić. In that season, he was also the most useful player in the domestic league.
After returning to Železnik, he had several excellent seasons in FMP, with which he also won the Radivoj Korac Cup in 2007. In the 2008/09 season, he was the best scorer of the Adriatic League, averaging 18 points per match.
Labović was a member of the junior categories of the Serbian national team, and in 2003 he won a gold medal at the European Championship with the under-16 team. Three years later, with the under-20 team, he won a gold medal at the continental championship in Izmir, which he repeated a year later in Gorica.
He made his debut for the senior national team of Serbia under the command of Zoran Moka Slavnić. Five years later, Labović was on Dušan Ivković's list for the European Championship, but was crossed out at the last minute.
In September 2012, Labović sent a letter to the media, in which he accused coach Ivković of being influenced by a management agency, believing that because of this there was no place for him on the list, writes Sportklub.
