Milorad Komrakov died in the "Dedinje" clinical center, his family confirmed employer Tanjug, where Komrakov hosted the morning program in recent years.
Komrakov was born on June 7, 1955 in Vršac.
The official biography further states that he published in Politikologist, Student, Index 202, Radio TV Review, NIN, Program 202 of Radio Belgrade, and from 1979 to 2002 he was employed in the news department of Television Belgrade - that is, RTS.
And that he was everything there, from the deck boy to the editor-in-chief of the news program and that he edited and ran the most TV diaries in the half-century history of TV Belgrade.
Furthermore, he received some great awards, for example from the Association of Journalists of Serbia, whose president he was until the overthrow of Slobodan Milošević, whom Komrakov faithfully served.
He wrote several books of complaints in which he relays his versions of the events: "My Sixth October", "Fifth October in RTS", "Bombing of RTS - my truth", "Hunting on Fifth October"...
In particular, he denied that he knew that the RTS building would be bombed in 1999, when 16 employees were killed there. Because of this, the director Dragoljub Milanović was sentenced to prison.
"I beg you..."
In the maelstrom of events surrounding the Fifth of October, Komrakov was brutally beaten and barely made it out alive.
Rushed into the studio, he said in the program: "I am begging you, in the name of the honor of the Serbian people, to recognize the victory of this nation, to stop these riots, to never let anyone die again, to never let Serbs attack Serbs, and to live like any normal world." I beg you with my honor and my honesty. I want to say that the television is no longer able to continue broadcasting the program, the people have come to their television."
The late "Vremena" columnist Teofil Pančić wrote about this a year later: "When that time, on the fifth of October, Milorad Komrakov, Dragoljub Milanović and the team were bullied like that, I felt a bit sorry for them, so I 'stood up' in their defense. Well, let's start from the beginning: I felt the devil sorry for them—I was too well aware of their merits; but I am convinced that a man must not get everything he deserves: certain forms of 'collection' destroy the creditor, not the debtor."
Independent clerk
Those lines arose when it was announced that Komrakov was returning from sick leave. And he was returned, in 2001, to his workplace in Zvečka near Obrenovac, where the RTS transmitter, destroyed during the bombing, used to be located. He worked as a "self-employed clerk for general affairs" in a forgotten porter's office...
Komrakov was also attacked in 2015 on Banovo brdo.
When he appeared on TV Tanjug in 2022, it again caused a small storm.
He's gone now. RTS published an official biography, without words about Komrakov's merits from the nineties.
He was never prosecuted. And he was one of the symbols of the "smooth transition" after the Fifth of October when everything was forgotten for many.
