New economy: The average salary of 1400 euros promised by Vučić is not realistic
In order for the average salary to rise to 1400 euros by the end of 2027, the total increase would have to be about 59 percent
Commenting on the government's attitude towards education, Professor Miodrag Zec recalled Dositej Obradović, the first minister of education, and his role in introducing enlightenment to Serbia. Today, Zec says, only potatoes remain - symbolically and literally - while knowledge and education are suppressed
President of Serbia he must understand that Belgrade University the most valuable thing that Serbia has, because we export university-educated people to the world, but we still import potatoes, said sociologist Miodrag Zec.
"What the University of Belgrade produces is exported to the world, people leave. We still import potatoes, and we export educated people. Well, that's what happened to us," said Professor Zec on the N1 TV show New Day.
Zec says that it is astonishing that the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, told the educators that instead of salaries, they will receive "potatoes".
"It is humiliating for at least 150.000 to 200.000 people who - no matter what the president thinks - make up the elite of this society. He may have an association with Dositej. Dositej is the first minister of education and it is said of him that he brought the Enlightenment and potatoes to Serbia. It seems that the Enlightenment was not really received, but the potatoes were received," said Professor Zec.
When it comes to Dositej Obradović, the associations are also for students, said Zec, reminding that on Dositej's monument it is written: "I went studying, looking at the centuries".
"So, he learned by walking just like these students. And in that sense, Dositej is interesting because he is the first minister of education. I know a lot about him, but nothing at all about this new minister of education," said Professor Zec, emphasizing that it is "very important" how we as a people relate to values and traditions.
Speaking about the election of Dejan Vuk Stanković as Minister of Education, Zec recalled the Latin proverb "similis simili gaudet - like rejoices with like".
"And it's a completely natural relationship. So I would take it that way," said Rabbit.
He also believes that the president of Serbia "got himself into a lot of trouble" and that he too "and the government in general, and the Serbs, have the need to humiliate some people who have been recorded in history."
"We have a model where the government treats knowledge and education, not only this, but otherwise," emphasized Zec.
