An analysis of job ads on the HelloWorld website shows that remote work (remote) is no longer the dominant model in the domestic IT sector. Share of ads that offer this job it fell from 40 percent in 2024 and 2025 to 26 percent in the first eight months of 2026. At the same time, hybrid work is growing, but the number of ads that involve going to the office every day is growing even faster.
If working from home has become one of the main features of the IT industry over the past few years, the data from the ad analysis shows that this trend is changing. Companies are increasingly looking for employees who will spend part of their working time in the office, while complete remote work is back to the level it was in 2021.
In 2021, the possibility of working remotely was listed in 26 percent of IT ads. The share increased to 31 percent in 2022, and would reach 29 percent in 2023. The highest percentage was recorded in 2024 and 2025, when remote work was offered in 40 percent of advertisements.
In the first eight months of 2026, that percentage dropped to 26 percent, according to data from HelloWorld.
However, this does not mean that the market has simply returned to the state of a few years ago. In the meantime, a hybrid model between working from home and working entirely from the office has taken hold.
Hybrid work is becoming more common
When the hybrid model was introduced as a separate tag in the HelloWorld ad database in 2023, it applied to 15 percent of ads. In the following year, its share increased to 25 percent, and in 2025 it amounted to 28 percent.
In the first eight months of 2026, hybrid work was offered in 32 percent of IT ads, according to the analysis.
At the same time, the number of jobs that require work from the office is also growing. Their share increased from 32 percent in 2025 to 42 percent in 2026.
Office work thus again became the most represented model among IT advertisements.
The change may be related to companies' efforts to find a balance between the flexibility employees expect and the need for immediate collaboration. Companies rely on working from the office to develop teams, introduce new employees to work and exchange knowledge, while the hybrid model represents a kind of compromise between the two extremes.
Who else can work from home?
Although the total share of remote jobs has decreased, the possibility of working remotely is still especially present in programming and other specialized technical positions.
According to HelloWorld's data for the year 2026, most of these ads were intended for the positions of Software Developer/Programmer/Engineer. Followed by Full Stack, Backend and Frontend developers.
Remote work is also more often offered to AI engineers, automated testing specialists, DevOps specialists, Python developers, and people working in the fields of Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence.
In other words, the ability to work remotely is not evenly distributed throughout the IT sector. It is mostly found in jobs that can be performed independently of the physical location, as well as in specialized profiles for which companies often look for candidates in the wider market.
In the hybrid model, most advertisements were for IT Help Desk/Support positions. Jobs that often offer hybrid work include software developers, DevOps and systems engineers, as well as business software consultants, according to an analysis of ads posted on HelloWorld.
There are more and more candidates per advertisement
The change in the work model is happening at a time when the competition among candidates for IT jobs is significantly higher than in previous years.
In the first eight months of 2026, the average number of applications per advertisement reached 64. For comparison, during 2025, there were an average of 48, and in 2024, 41.
Differences also exist depending on the work model. Hybrid ads had an average of 57 applications, while fully remote jobs recorded 56.
The most competition was for jobs that involve working from the office - an average of 76 applications per advertisement.
And this data is part of HelloWorld's analysis, and in itself does not show that candidates prefer office work. The number of applications is influenced by the type of position, required experience, number of open ads and other factors.
Nevertheless, the figures show that the increased competition is no longer characteristic only for attractive remote jobs.
Working from home goes from being a rule to a benefit
Remote work will not disappear from the IT industry. It will continue to be important to companies that have distributed teams, employ people from different cities and countries, or are trying to find specialists that are in short supply in the local market.
But an analysis of the ad published by HelloWorld indicates a change in its status.
In recent years, remote work has turned from one of the main characteristics of the IT market into a model that is linked to certain companies, positions and candidate profiles. At the same time, hybrid work is becoming more common, while some companies are returning to the classic office model.
For employees in the IT sector, this means that the possibility of working entirely from home can no longer be taken for granted. For employers, on the other hand, the flexibility of remote work can become one of the ways to stand out in a market where the number of candidates and the way of working have changed significantly compared to a few years ago.
