On the world market price OIL is in decline, and the price of oil derivatives on the stock exchange in the Mediterranean, on the basis of which the price is formed fuel in Serbia is also falling. Fuel prices at gas stations are falling all over the world, except in Serbia.
The price of Eurodiesel is this Friday, July 3. increased by 2 dinars per liter compared to last week, so the price at gas stations is currently 219 dinars. I petrol has risen in price by two dinars compared to last week, so the price per liter is now 195 dinars.
Excise duties in Serbia are five percent lower than the legal level
After the American-Israeli attacks on Iran and closing Strait of Hormuz the price of oil on the world market has increased, which is why the Government of Serbia, in order to stop the jump in prices at the pumps, decided to reduce the excise duty on fuel by 20 percent. The state thus waived about 15 dinars per liter of excise duty, writes "Danas".

The price of oil continued to grow, and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, announced before the local elections in several municipalities in Serbia that the state would reduce the excise tax on fuel by as much as 60 percent, but instead it was reduced by 25 percent. When the price of oil stabilized, the Government of Serbia returned the excise tax to its old level.
After the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the USA and Iran, the price of oil returned to the pre-war level, and the Government of Serbia raised the excise tax first by 12,5 and then by another 5,5 percent.
The excise duty on gasoline is currently 68,4 dinars, and on diesel 70,34 dinars, which is about five percent lower than the legal level.
We have had the most expensive fuel for years
Economic consultant Bogdan Petrović told "Danas" that the reason for the fuel price increase is that the state waived part of the excise tax at one point in order to prevent excessive price increases, and now it is increasing them again.
Petrović points out that we are once again in a situation where fuel is the most expensive in Serbia and explains to "Danas" that the problem is solely in the amount of the excise tax. "Our excise duty is the highest in the region, and it's not just yesterday, we've had the most expensive fuel for years," he points out and adds that fuel is cheaper even in Croatia.
Given that the price of fuel in the Mediterranean has fallen everywhere except in Serbia, Petrović says that the opposite has happened in our country and that the price of fuel has risen, precisely because the government raised the previously reduced excise duty.

President of the Departmental Committee for Energy of the party HEART Goran Đukić says that the government tried to present the reduction of excise taxes as a big concession to citizens, but that is not true, since both citizens and the economy pay excise taxes on oil derivatives, which are "among the highest amounts in Europe."
On the other hand, he explains, the government "faster-better" used the first news about the stabilization of conditions in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz to return excise taxes to the level before the oil crisis caused by the conflict in the Middle East.
Đukić states that one should certainly not ignore the fact that countries from the region that do not have active refineries - Montenegro, North Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina - have significantly lower prices of oil derivatives, which clearly indicates that the current government does not care at all about the interests of the citizens or the interests of the economy.
He also believes that the goal of excessively high excise taxes is to provide finance for "numerous senseless, economically unfounded projects interwoven with enormous corruption, among which the leading Exspo".
