In a state with more betting shops than pharmacies, the past year has shown that gambling is serious business. The five largest companies collected over 120 million euros in profit. While the number of bookmakers grows, and the payments do not decrease, the question remains: whose profit is it actually
The year 2024 has passed, for bookmakers in Serbia, in terms of business success, it was good. Namely, four out of five leading bookmakers in our country increased theirs benefits and together earned more than 120 million euros. By the way, these companies together own almost half of all betting shops in Serbia, writes Dunja Marić in the New Economy.
There are 19 companies operating in Serbia that have betting shops. There are far more companies that, in addition to classic betting, also offer slot machines - 61. Online betting, then, there are 27, and companies that own a casino - two.
The five largest, when looking at profits, are Mozzart, Max bet, Balkan bet, Phuket and Meridian tech.
Mozart's profit exceeds 5,3 billion dinars
According to the data from the financial report, Mozart ended the year 2024 with a profit of more than 5,3 billion dinars, which is about 45,5 million euros. This result represents an increase compared to 2023, when Mozart realized a net profit of about 4,7 billion dinars (about 40 million euros). Otherwise, this company records continuous growth. Namely, in 2022, Mozart ended with a profit of 36,3 million euros. A year earlier, in 2021, their profit was 21 million euros.
This means that their profit in 2024, compared to a year earlier, has increased by about 14 percent. When looking at the longer period, from 2021 to 2024, the profit increased by almost 120 percent.
Furthermore, the company Max bet recorded a doubling of profits - from 1,32 billion dinars (11,28 million euros) in 2023 to more than 2,59 billion dinars (22,16 million euros) in 2024. In the previous years, 2022 and 2021, Max bet recorded profits of 15,36 and 8,66 million euros. So, in one year, this company achieved a profit growth of 97 percent, while the growth from 2021 to 2024 is as much as 155 percent.
Balkan bet also had a profit growth. Specifically, this company increased its profit from 1,21 billion dinars (10,3 million euros) in 2023 to 1,81 billion dinars (15,4 million euros) in 2024. That is, therefore, a growth of slightly less than 50 percent. When looking at the years 2021 and 2022, it can be seen that Balkan Bet made a profit of 2022 million euros in 7,15. A year earlier, in 2021, the profit was drastically lower, amounting to around 39.700 euros.
A big increase in profit during 2024 was also experienced by the Phuket company, which owns Soccerbet betting shops. It increased its profit from 1,17 billion dinars (10 million euros) in 2023 to 2024 billion dinars (3,54 million euros) during 30,2.
So, in just one year, this company had a profit growth of as much as 202 percent.
If previous years are also considered here, it can be seen that in 2022 Phuket had a profit of 21,7 and in 2021 around 12,1 million euros. So, from 2021 to 2024, this firm had an increase of about 150 percent.
One bookmaker's profit slightly decreased
Unlike the previous bookmakers, Meridian Tech recorded a slight decline in 2024 - to 1,07 billion dinars (9,2 million euros), from 1,12 billion dinars (9,6 million euros) realized in 2023. That is, therefore, a drop of about four percent. By the way, this company had a profit of 2022 million euros in 9,9, and around 2021 million euros in 7,3.
Therefore, when looking at a period of several years, i.e. from 2021 to 2024, a profit growth of about 26 percent was achieved.
Five dominant bookmakers
By the way, there are a total of 2.921 betting shops in Serbia.
Of that number, these five companies hold a total of 1.340 betting shops, official data from the Gaming Authority.
Specifically, Mozzart has 477, Max bet 342, Balkan bet 104, Phuket 286, and Meridian tech 131 bookmakers.
The director of "Srbijagas" Dušan Bajatović said that the presidents of Serbia and Russia have agreed on everything and that the continuation of cooperation has essentially been agreed, and that it remains to work on the details.
