Recent decision Ministry of Education to include in the work plan of the school for the next school year visiting the specialized Expo 2027 exhibition. The Ministry has even published a calendar of educational work for primary and secondary schools, in which the days scheduled for one-day visits to exhibitions are marked. EXPO 2027 in the period from May 17 to June 25.
Educators have noticed that excursions are not planned in the calendar either, parents believe that visiting the Expo should not be an obligation, and the public is asking, among other things, who will pay for it.
The purpose of the Expo is to educate the public
In such an atmosphere, a statement was published on the occasion of the students' visits to the Expo by Dimitri Kerkentzes, Secretary General of the International Bureau of Exhibitions (BIE). He reminds that "Article 1 of the Convention from 1928 defines the Expo as an exhibition whose main purpose is to educate the public", so he adds that "it is a space in which humanity presents the means at its disposal in order to respond to the needs of civilization, shows progress in various fields of activity and opens perspectives for future development".
In this sense, says Dimitrij Kerkentzes, "Expo is much more than an exhibition space. It is a global meeting place where knowledge, creativity and innovation come together, allowing visitors to understand how societies develop and how solutions to common challenges emerge."
That's why he emphasizes that "visiting the Expo exhibition in its essence represents a rich and valuable educational experience. For people of all ages, and especially for young people, whose curiosity about the world is the greatest - the Expo opens the door to discovery and imagination. From the cultural traditions of distant countries to the latest technological innovations, from unknown gastronomic specialties to new forms of entertainment, the Expo gathers a variety of experiences that are difficult to find in any other place or event".
Discovering the world through play
"Through the combination of thematic settings, cultural encounters and international exchange, the Expo encourages curiosity and calls for reflection. At the same time, for each visitor it is also a deeply personal journey. Whether he explores it with family, friends or schoolmates, there is no unique way of visiting the pavilions and numerous contents in the exhibition area. That is why everyone follows their own path, shaped by moments of admiration, inspiration and surprise, and leaves with a unique understanding of the world and its possibilities."
At Expo 2027 Belgrade, students, schoolchildren and people of all ages and abilities will have the opportunity to discover the world through play. Whatever inspiration they take with them and whatever ideas they form about different paths to progress, it will be an experience that will follow them long after they leave the exhibition. In the end, this is exactly how we measure the success of an Expo event: by its ability to inspire, connect people and open new ways of looking at the world and our common future", concluded Dimitrij Kerkentzes, Secretary General of the International Bureau of Exhibitions.
