Macedonian customs officials prevented the smuggling of 1,7 tons at Skopje International Airport medicines "sildenafil citat ups" (Viagra) and "sibutramine", which can be harmful to the health of citizens, announced the Customs Administration of North Macedonia, and reports KoSSev.
As stated in the announcement, you medicines they are not registered in the Medicines Agency of North Macedonia, and the importing company did not even have a license for the sale of medicines in bulk, that is, it was not registered in the register of legal entities for the performance of this type of activity.
Controlled sales and narcotic drugs
Expert examination determined that the drug "sibutramine" (a weight loss drug) is a substance that is on the National List of Controlled Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, because it is a stimulant of the central nervous system.
"Furthermore, it has been found to cause heart attacks and strokes, which is why medicines containing sibutramine have been banned for sale in the European Union (EU) since 2010," the North Macedonian Customs Administration said in a statement.
It is added that the drug "Sildenafil Cite Ups" (Viagra) is a substance that is part of drugs for the treatment of impotence and that it is subject to controlled sale.
"That case was taken over by the Department of Control and Investigations, and a criminal complaint will be filed against the legal entity to the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office," the announcement states.
Are there any in Serbia?
On the BENU pharmacy website, it is written that the drug "sibutramine" was withdrawn from the Serbian market a few years ago and is now not registered in Serbia.
However, on various websites such as "bodybuildingpreparati", "proteinisrbija" and others, you can find this drug, and its price is 10 dinars for 20 tablets of 1.800 mg, and 30 dinars for 4.500 tablets.
Viagra also exists on the "Srbija Apoteka" website, where in the section about them it is written that it is an online pharmacy that "tries to save money by providing drugs at low prices online." The price of Viagra on that site for 10 tablets is 2805 dinars, and upwards.
