In yesterday's text of the Kurir, it is stated that the police officers of the Administration for City of Belgrade arrested several citizens for, as they stated, violence, attacks on police officers or disruption of public order and peace. In the text, however, they published the name and surname of the 17-year-old minor.
US reminds that the Code of Journalists of Serbia stipulates that information obtained from the police, health, educational, social institutions or their employees, which directly or indirectly refers to the identity of minors, may not be published.
The UNS points out that the Law on Public Information and Media clearly stipulates that "a minor may not be identified in information that may harm his right or interest" (Article 91).
Mass violation of the journalistic code
The law stipulates that in case of violation of this provision, the editor-in-chief of the media will be fined from RSD 50.000 to RSD 150.000 for the misdemeanor if a minor is identified in the published information that is likely to infringe his right or interest.
UNS calls on the media to respect the rights of minors, and Kurir to urgently remove all information that makes minors recognizable in the publication.
