Gymnasium "Uroš Predić" in Pančev is from Monday (October 6) at blockade.
In the statement signed by the students, it was stated that this decision represents a collective expression of the will of the students to fight for their rights, dignity and better education conditions in a legal and non-violent way.
One of the main problems that caused them to decide to block the school is the appointment of a new acting director, Radisav Milić.
Students are at school, but classes are not taking place, one of the students of this school told N1.
Most students for the blockade
The students voted for the blockade on Sunday, October 5. 586 students voted for the blockade, 53 were against, and 269 did not express their opinion, reports the portal 013 info.
They announced that joining the blockade is a form of peaceful and organized protest against perceived injustices, systematic problems and irregularities in the educational process.
According to the students, the blockade will be implemented in accordance with the agreed rules and regulations, with full respect for the school premises, employees and all participants. All students participating in the blockade are obliged to respect the agreed schedule of arrivals and duty, take care of the school's property, do not disturb the safety and order in the institution, and do not allow unauthorized persons to enter, it was stated in the statement.
The students point out that the goal of the blockade is to start a dialogue and solve specific problems, and they call on all competent parties to take into account the reasons for the protest.
The students will promptly inform the school administration and the public about further steps and the duration of the blockade.
The parents' council is concerned about the appointment of the acting director
The parents' council of that school is also concerned about the appointment of Radisav Milić as the acting director of the Gymnasium, because he was previously dismissed from management positions in as many as three educational institutions, due to illegal behavior, which is publicly available information.
Radisav Milić previously in April 2024, he was dismissed from the position of director of the Sixth Belgrade High School, and earlier he lost his position in schools in Smederevo and Belgrade, Pistaljka wrote earlier.
"By appointing a person with such references, a message is sent that is completely contrary to the interests of children, parents, employees and the educational system as a whole," announced the Parents' Council of this school.
They also wonder "whether the decision-makers would want the school attended by their children to be led by someone with proven violent behavior and multiple dismissals from directorships".
The parents' council supports the employees' proposal to appoint professor Vesna Milivojević as acting director.
Shifts in schools
At the beginning of the school year around 200 teachers with fixed-term contracts were left without a job Dušan Kokot from the Independent Union of Educational Workers of Serbia tells "Vreme". Many of them have since found employment in other schools.
According to the statement of the Minister of Education Dejan Vuk Stanković at the end of August, 75 directors resigned for various reasons, and 25 directors were dismissed from their duties based on the findings of the educational inspection.
The trade unions point out that in the meantime, more directors have been dismissed, but that the minister still cites the same number.
Last year's blockades
Last school year, i.e. its second semester, was chaotic in many schools in Serbia.
Although the union's data on how many teachers participated in the suspension of classes did not match the data of the competent ministry, certainly thousands of teachers did not enter the classrooms for several months.
Some suffered the consequences because of this - proceedings were initiated against them, dismissals were handed out, and all of them had their salaries suspended at one point.
Last year's student blockades began as an act of support for students, and the students of the First Kragujevac High School were the first to join the blockade.
