"We took into account the citizens' objections and corrected the project according to which the reconstruction is being done." Svetosavski plateau", he tells "Vreme" Professor Branislav Mitrović.
He, in cooperation with his colleague arch. prof. Dejan Miljković, the author of the project commissioned by the Serbian Orthodox Church and which began to be realized in May 2024, with the construction of an underground garage in Skerlićeva Street. Because of this, several trees were cut down, and it turned out that it would not stop there.
The witches rebelled., did not take into account the explanations of the project author that the current greenery will be replaced by another, in a different form, and managed to correct the original project.
Designing is a laboratory job
Professor Mitrović emphasizes that those comments that were not necessary in his opinion were also taken into account.
"First of all, I'm thinking of the one that related to the space in front of the Temple. We originally removed the existing trees from that part with the idea of leaving an empty space within a radius of about 30 meters of a sacred object like St. Peter's Square in the Vatican. I think it suits a sacred object, the citizens thought otherwise, and we gave up the empty space," says Professor Mitrović.
"You know, designing is a laboratory job, it's done at the table, and only when you come to terms with the location, you can see the real situation. Now I'm glad that we corrected the original idea."
Elem: the oaks have remained where they are now, and instead of the original concrete there will be earth with dense low vegetation, Professor Mitrović says "it will be like a green box" with paths inside the bushes on which there will be benches.
Also, there is greenery between the Church of Saint Sava and the Temple. "These are green oases that didn't exist," explains the professor.
Chamber scene
The next big change is in the area that forms the corner of the building of the National Library of Serbia and its annex where the business part is located. There will be an outdoor camera scene, 180×30, it will have 200 seats, and it will be integrated into the park.
"This area of the Plateau has not been used enough until now. It turned out to be a good place for a camera scene - in a quiet and sheltered part of the Plateau. There will only be paved surfaces for sitting and moving, while everything else will remain under greenery, so the entire space will represent a green cascade," says Professor Mitrović.
The access path to the Temple has also been reduced. It was 18 meters, and now it is 6,5 meters. Accordingly, the existing fountain was adapted.
From Nebojšina Street, the ramp towards the Plateau is made by trees, 130 oak trees.
The completion of the reconstruction of the Svetosava Plateau is expected in the fall of next year.
