Republic Hydrometeorological Institute he warned that it was starting heat wave on the territory of Serbia, which will mark maximum temperatures today up to 35 degrees, on Thursday up to 37, and from Friday from 38 to 40 degrees.
According to current forecasts, the heat wave will last throughout the first decade of August, and it will be most pronounced in the period from August 5 to 8, when maximum daily temperatures of around 40 degrees are expected in most places.
It is stated that tropical nights are forecast in urban areas, with minimum temperatures of 20 to 24 degrees, and in Belgrade from 22 to 26 degrees.
It is added that at the end of the first decade of August, the probability of local showers and thunderstorms increases, but without significant refreshment, and that despite the gradual weakening of the intensity of the heat, the maximum daily temperatures will still be from 30 to 35 degrees.
RHMZ also states that a prolonged period of very high temperatures leads to the accumulation of heat stress and a significant increase in the risk to the health of the population, and that the greatest risks relate to the occurrence of heatstroke, sunstroke and dehydration, especially in children, the elderly, chronic patients, pregnant women and people who work or stay outdoors.
It is also warned that a prolonged period of high temperatures can lead to the drying out of vegetation and soil, significantly increasing the risk of outbreaks and rapid spread of outdoor fires.
It is also added that the water levels on the Danube, Sava and Tisza near Titel will be below low navigation levels.
