For the first time, the Ryanair airline announced in more detail about the incident in which Serbian citizen Ljubiša Karović (61) died during the flight from Thessaloniki to Memmingen almost fell out of the plane in the air, after an engine failure.
According to the information so far, parts of the engine broke the window, and Karović was sucked through the opening. His wife Svetlana Grković grabbed his legs and with the help of two other passengers managed to get him back into the cabin.
Ryanair CFO Neil Sorahan now says the company has been in contact with the family since the accident. He reminded that the plane was safely returned to Thessaloniki. "All passengers left the plane on their feet. The crew and pilots did a great job," Sorahan said, as reported by the Guardian.
About compensation after the investigation
For now, the company does not want to talk about possible compensation for Karović and his wife. Sorahan said it was "too early" for such talks while the official investigation was ongoing.
Last week, it was announced that the US National Transportation Safety Board would be investigating, as the incident occurred on a Boeing 737 operated by Malta Air, a subsidiary of Ryanair.
Ryanner welcomed the decision to have the investigation handled by the NTSB. "We are fully cooperating and have people on the ground assisting with the process," Sorahan said.
Don't worry about anything.
In an attempt to reassure passengers, Sorahan said there was no cause for concern when it came to the safety of the fleet. He emphasized that neither the US Federal Aviation Administration nor the European Aviation Safety Agency requested any additional measures after the incident.
"We are very satisfied with the level of safety in all five of our airlines. The Boeing 737 is probably the safest airplane ever built," he said.
