Laz Tunnel, on the section highway Pakovraće - Požega, which was pompously opened only a month and a half ago, will be partially passable for vehicles for more than 40 days, and traffic will work by alternating the use of one tunnel tube in the tunnel.
This was announced by "Roads of Serbia", noting that work is starting on both tunnel tubes due to road works, but they did not specify what kind of work it was.
"If the tunnel is closed and traffic is allowed for almost three kilometers in length, through the hill, where you have no exit, in both directions, as a passenger and driver you can conclude that you are in a claustrophobic space. Without any information about what is going on there and what the exits are. And at 2.750 meters there is none in relation to the entrance to the tunnel," warns architect Zdenka Radovanović, writing N1.
After several years of announcements, the section of the highway to Požega was opened in early July, but just eight days later, the first works in the tunnels began, and they have not stopped since then.
"In the area of the Laz tunnel, for 21 days, works will be carried out in the right tunnel tube, while traffic will be carried out two-way through the technical official passages in the left tunnel tube. For 21 days, the works will also be carried out in the left tunnel tube, while traffic will be carried out bi-directionally through the official passages in the right tunnel tube", announced JP "Roads of Serbia".
The problem arose when it became known that the ground around the Munjino Brdo tunnel was settling due to a landslide. But also the knowledge that this hill is full of water. That is why the engineers did not want to sign the Minutes on the list of unfinished works.
"The profession needs to speak about the risk, and it has already spoken out. The community of engineers has spoken out and warned. So has the Faculty of Traffic. As well as eminent professors of the civil engineering faculties who gave individual statements to the media. Everyone appealed not to commit a violation and a precedent because the risk of using this road, which will be completed by who knows how long, is huge," explains Radovanović.
The Government of Serbia also passed a decree which, as some interpret, suspends the Rulebook on Tunnel Safety, with the obligation to provide round-the-clock emergency services - firefighters, police and medical personnel.
