Citizens who oppose the construction aquarium at the park Mouth, gathered on Sunday (February 22) at the invitation of the New Belgrade choirs to express their dissatisfaction with the planned construction.
As reported by N1, the citizens gathered in front of the First Basic Court, in Nikola Tesla Boulevard at 12:00, and the gathering ended around 2:00 p.m.
The fenced park was guarded by a cordon of police in equipment to break up demonstrations, and the police authenticated the gathered and did not allow passage through the park.
Police vehicles were parked on the other side of the fence, including police cars, reports N1.
It was not possible to enter the park from the other side either, near the former Hotel Jugoslavija.
Beating at the previous protest
Part of Belgrade parka Mouth it was cordoned off during the night between Sunday and Monday (February 15 and 16) with the presence of the police.
A day later, citizens gathered at protest which turned into riots in which several people were detained and injured.
The gathering was organized as a response to the night fencing of a part of the park, where the construction of an aquarium was planned, which caused the indignation of a large number of Belgrade citizens.
The protest started in the afternoon, at the invitation of the citizens' assemblies from Zemun and Novi Belgrade and the students in the blockade, who announced that the works in the park had not passed a public hearing and would threaten the green areas of the city.
During the gathering, the protesters tore down parts of the metal fences that had been previously installed with the assistance of the police. Some also tore up posters with visual representations of the future aquarium facility.
This was responded to by the police in full gear to break up the demonstration, which began to attack the students and citizens.
At one point, the policemen knocked down the young man and took him into custody, and according to the available videos from social networks.
After the end of the protest, the police, according to the students of the Faculty of Agriculture in the blockade, intercepted the participants in several locations inside the park and identified them, and then several students were arrested. Footage shared by participants shows police units hunting young men and women through the park, surrounding them as if they were criminals.
