An aerial bomb from the Second World War was found at the construction site in Poenkareova Street in Belgrade, during construction work, announced Ivica Dacic, Minister of Internal Affairs in the Technical Government.
"It is a German general-purpose aerial bomb, model SC 250, left over from World War II. The total weight is about 250 kilograms, with an explosive charge of about 130 kilograms," Dacic said.
Members of the Department for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs carried out reconnaissance, identification and assessment of the condition of the found bomb in order to take the necessary measures and prepare for its safe destruction, the statement added.
"Given the characteristics of the found aerial bomb and the fact that it was armed with an electric lighter, its destruction must be carried out at the place where it was found. It is planned that activities aimed at destroying the aerial bomb will be carried out on Sunday, October 4, 2026, starting at 6 a.m.," said Dacic.
How will they protect citizens?
In the meantime, he added, the Operational Headquarters for the destruction of the aerial bomb was formed, whose task is to monitor and coordinate the activities of the competent services in order to implement security measures and protect citizens.
"The operational headquarters consists of representatives of a number of organizational units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the City of Belgrade, the Institute of Emergency Medicine, the PUK Parking Service, the Communal Militia, the Red Cross of Serbia and other relevant entities. In order to ensure the maximum level of citizen safety and prevent possible accidents during the implementation of the activity, measures will be taken that include the evacuation of citizens from the danger zone within a radius of 150 meters from the place where the aerial bomb is destroyed, as well as informing the residents who live in buildings in wider risk zone, at a distance of up to 200 meters from the same location, on the implementation of planned activities and security measures, including temporary restriction of movement and access to the said area during the duration of the activity," he said.
All planned activities will be carried out with the aim of destroying the aerial bomb in a safe and controlled manner, with maximum protection of citizens' lives and property, the MUP added.
