University of Belgrade on Thursday (April 24), he sent an invitation to Serbian Prime Minister Đur Matsut to continue the dialogue and suggests that the next meeting be held on Monday or Tuesday, reports N1.
"The University of Belgrade remains firmly committed to open dialogue and is ready to continue the discussions with the representatives Government of the Republic of Serbia", stated in the letter written by the rector of the University of Belgrade prof. Dr. Vladan Đokić on Thursday sent to the Prime Minister prof. Dr. Djuri Matsut.
In the letter, it is suggested that the next meeting be held on Monday or Tuesday, April 28 or 29, at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Belgrade, at a time that suits the Prime Minister.
"We invite you and your associates to continue the conversation together. The meeting, on behalf of the University, would be attended by the rector, vice-chancellors and deans of higher education institutions within the University of Belgrade," states the letter from Rector Đokić.
Start of negotiations
Previously, a meeting between the prime minister and the rector was held on Tuesday (April 22) at the invitation of the prime minister. In the announcement of the Government of Serbia, it was stated that the talks will continue in a constructive atmosphere, with the aim of fully normalizing the work of the University of Belgrade, RTS reported.
Then they added that the meeting took place in an open and constructive atmosphere. The meeting was attended by Minister of Education Dejan Vuk Stanković and Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation Bela Balint.
In front of the Rectorate of the University of Belgrade, in addition to Rector Đokić, the meeting was attended by Vice Dean for Finance Zorica Vujić and Vice Rector for Education Dejan Filipović.
On the other hand, the Rectorate of the University of Belgrade announced that at the meeting on the possibilities for overcoming the current crisis, the rector's team emphasized that for the normalization of the situation at the University, the fulfillment of student demands and the removal of all other forms of pressure on the academic community is necessary.
They stated that it is necessary to annul the unconstitutional Regulation on the norms and standards of working conditions of universities and faculties and to stop media pressure on the academic community.
"The conversation did not bring concrete results at the moment. It was agreed to continue tomorrow in the building of the Government of Serbia, about which we will report to the academic community and the general public in a timely manner," they wrote in the statement.
Failure to hold the announced second meeting
On the second day when the meeting was supposed to take place, Rector Đokić explained in an open letter to the Prime Minister of Serbia that he had received a request from the First Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade to provide information on the criminal complaint "filed by Mr. Miloš Pavlović and others".
The report was filed, as he stated, because of the "criminal act of violation of equality", and it was emphasized that urgent action is expected.
The rector then canceled the meeting.
On the other hand, in the meantime, the Prosecutor's Office announced on Wednesday that many people interpreted Rector Vladan Đokić's open letter as saying that he had been summoned to the hearing that day, which, they stated, was not true.
"On March 31, 2025, the First Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade, on the basis of Article 282 paragraph 1 point 3 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, sent the Rectorate of the University of Belgrade a request to provide the necessary information, which ordered the Rectorate to submit certain decisions and clarifications about the way the Rectorate works to the Prosecutor's Office. We emphasize that the First Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade has not scheduled the hearing of the Rector of the University of Belgrade, Vladan Đokić, for today, nor any other date", the Prosecutor's Office announced.
Earlier hearing of the rector
On Friday (April 18), rector Đokić was questioned at the Criminal Police Directorate (UKP) in Mihajla Pupina Boulevard in Belgrade in the capacity of a citizen, and for "gathering information in the pre-investigation procedure for the criminal offense of abuse of official position".
After a two-and-a-half-hour hearing, he told the media: "I gave a statement and stated that I believe that I have not committed any criminal offense, not even the criminal offense of abuse of official position. That criminal offense is being blamed on all members of the academic community who are trying to articulate the decisions made by the students, which were supported by the professor and the citizens. I do not know how the proceedings will proceed. This is a report against all deans, professors, students and the academic community. I hope that the academic community will remain complex."
Just like when he came to UKP, Đokić was greeted by a very large number of citizens who greeted him enthusiastically.
