Student blockade of Radio and Television of Serbia (RTS) ended on April 28th, but a group of employees of that media house, members of the group "Naš pRoTeSt" sent an open letter to the management of the public service, in which they state that the end of the blockade does not mean the end of the fight for objective reporting RTS-and.
As stated in the letter, published on the Cenzolovka website, it will be remembered in the history of that company that almost none of the workers were addressed by the management during the blockade.
"Apart from the right to work, you also denied us information about behavior in a crisis situation. During that time, a narrow circle of people produced a program in which students were called Nazis, the area in front of RTS was described as a ghetto, and we, who fight for objective reporting, were called blockaders. We fought for our house, and you for your armchairs!", states the letter of the United Workers of RTS "Our Protest".
Workers from this group accuse the management of not giving up on the violation of basic journalistic principles, which, as they say, puts the media house in danger again and further inflames social conflicts.
There are too many "whys"
There are too many "WHY's" these days, workers say in a letter to management.
"One of them is - why is our proud hundred-year-old radio station so low on your list of priorities. You allocate only one percent of RTS's total budget for its work, which is the amount you spend on one season of less broadcasts of external production. It will also go down in history that during the blockade Radio Belgrade was locked for two days, which last happened during the Second World War," the announcement states.
Let us remind you, WHY is the inscription on the monument to RTS workers killed in the bombing of the building of that media house in April 1999.
The workers demand answers to several questions, as they say, as soon as possible.
Among them are the questions why RTS did not deal with the topic of the newly renovated Ceiling collapsed at school in Rača, why Dnevnik aired a feature about the police attack on students in the blockade Faculty of Physical Education in Novi Sad, in which four interlocutors defended dean, and no one was heard who spoke on behalf of the students, and why the law is respected and the denials of those who rightly demand it from RTS are not published.
The workers also want answers to the questions of why RTS viewers did not hear the truth about who he is injured the eye of a member of the Gendarmerie in Aberdare, why did the viewers not hear that FDU students were beaten in front of their faculty by officials of the ruling party, who compared student with the Nazis, and why RTS does not have problem shows about students, which will be hosted by journalists who do not relativize reality.
"Those of us who raised this house from the ashes after October 5th know how hard work it is. We demand that you stop violating journalistic code and morals and allow our house to be restored to its dignity," the post said.
The management is urged not to use revanchism towards colleagues who publicly spoke out in the previous period, who were invited to the BIA and humiliated in the announcements in Dnevnik 2.
"None of them spoke badly about our house, but about the editors and journalists who humiliated our house by flagrantly violating the journalistic code," the letter reads.
The blockade of RTS ended after the Parliamentary Board announced a new competition for the selection of members of the Regulatory Body for Electronic Media, and RTS workers from the group "Naš pRoTeSt" remind that they have collected more than 23000 signatures of citizens in a petition to announce a new competition for the selection of REM Council members.
