The previous four years According to director Ivan Mihajlović, the workers of the public utility company "Mediana" planted about six thousand trees and cut down 290.
This company does not answer where exactly are the six thousand trees that have turned green Niš, they write Southern news.
Civil engineer Danijel Dašić told "Vreme" that he does not doubt the accuracy of the statement that the trees were planted and that this is commendable, but the bigger problem is that the cut trees cannot be compared with the planted saplings.
Namely, he says that already formed trees were cut down, and one large tree is worth as much as a hundred young ones in terms of oxygen production and air purification.
At the end of January, trees were cut near the Science and Technology Park in Nis. The citizens then said that they were afraid of concrete, and Zelenil promised 100 new trees.
Concrete has no place to plant trees
There is a big problem, says Dašić, that "Mediana" cannot plant new trees because there is a certain number prescribed for the density in the parks, and if more were planted, the park would turn into a forest.
"We have a drastic reduction in the number and size of green areas in Nis," our interlocutor points out.
Recently, a prize game was organized, where citizens were invited to find buildings that meet the conditions prescribed by law and receive 10.000 dinars for that. The prize was not awarded because - Nišlije did not find a building with the legal minimum of greenery.
"Even if we want to plant something new in Niš, we have no place because a large number of green areas, parks, and greenery around buildings have been turned into parking lots and residential buildings," points out Dašić.
The plan is missing.
He adds that the worst thing is that the new General Urban Plan does not include a greening plan for Niš in the near future.
"A couple of years ago, Niš had 28.000 trees, and in order to breathe normally, it should have 50.000. So one tree per three inhabitants is the minimum minimum. So I think that the strategic plan should first deal with the fact of how to achieve the European minimum, and then go for what is optimum - one tree, one man," emphasizes Dašić.
He concludes that even the small number of professional people who want to do their job properly cannot.
"I'm sure that Niš could plant 20.000 new trees, but the question is where because we don't currently have such plans, and as far as I know there is no indication that those plans are being adopted or being prepared," says our interlocutor.
