Works on roundabout Code Assembly they are brought to an end.
Currently, works are being carried out on the reconstruction and paving of the sidewalk in the street Nikola Pasic Square, while the announced expansions of bus stops in both directions have been completed.
New stops and lanes
City Beograd previously announced that the new stop will be equipped with all the supporting infrastructure, including a canopy and an information tower.
In this way, by extending the bus stop to the City Hall parking lot, another lane will be enabled.
In the direction of Kralja Aleksandra Boulevard from the roundabout, five traffic lanes have been installed, while three are intended for the opposite direction towards the city center.
Horizontal white signage has been placed on certain sections of the roadway - arrows with permitted turns, while pedestrian crossings are still waiting to be marked.
Although the works are nearing completion, the space intended for the movement of vehicles is still closed. The white tents of Students who want to study, from Pionirski Park, have been on the plateau in front of the Assembly for months, currently only on the left side.
Circular flow on Republic Square as well
Part of the broader plan to relieve traffic in the city center is also a new roundabout on Republic Square, it was announced earlier.
The City of Belgrade explained that the roads will receive a new pavement structure, and the Belgrade Clock will be placed in the center of the circle, as a new landmark of the city that will combine the tradition and aesthetics of the modern city.
Due to the visual and security improvement, there will be granite planters with greenery around the perimeter of the Republic Square plateau.
What is going on in Terazije?
Citizens are confused by the scene from Terazi, where it seems that the next new roundabout is being prepared.
"According to this roundabout, as far as I can see - from the direction of Terazije, they will only be able to go straight. Because everyone will flow into the right blue arrow and that's it - literally as before. Otherwise, if nothing else, the news is that they will be able to turn right back to Terazije from the direction of the Terazije tunnel," one of the users jokingly commented on the X network.
In February, the City of Belgrade, after announcements by Aleksandar Šapić, confirmed that two new roundabouts are planned, on Terazije and in Prizrenska Street, which should further speed up traffic, reduce congestion, and increase safety.
Let's remind you that due to works being carried out around the city, there were changes in the traffic of numerous city transport lines, so the "Terazije" stop was also temporarily closed.
Professor Vujanić: A roundabout is better than a crossroads
Milan Vujanić, retired professor of the Faculty of Traffic, told "Vreme" that a roundabout can be a good solution.
"Roundabouts are always a better solution than a classic intersection. They are safer, because of the 16 intersection points at a classic intersection with two roads and two traffic lanes, when you put a roundabout it goes to eight points. This means that drivers are less burdened and less likely to make mistakes," says professor Vujanić.
He points out that the roundabout occupies a large area, and that it is impossible to install it in many places.
"If it is possible, then it is good to install it. The improvement of the roundabout is if traffic lights are added, but this is only possible if the intersections are busy and if the traffic lights are equipped with strips, i.e. loops that detect the approach of vehicles," explains the retired professor of the Faculty of Traffic.
He concludes that, despite the efforts of Mayor Šapić, who is undertaking numerous actions, "Belgrade does not have any epoch-making good solution in the future until it builds a metro".
