Strong smell of burning and template spread on Friday evening to almost all parts of Belgrade, while a layer of haze formed over the city. Journalists registered an intense smell in the city center, on Dorćol, Voždovac, Južno boulevard and New Belgrade.
The unpleasant smell of burning was especially pronounced in the evening hours, and in some parts of the city the air had a characteristic smell of smoke and burnt vegetation.
The smell was also registered by journalists at several locations in Belgrade - from the city center and Dorćol, via Voždovac and Južno boulevard, to New Belgrade. At the same time, citizens massively reported a similar phenomenon on social networks.
Unofficially, it is about the smoke that the wind brought from the direction Deliblato Sandstones, where a big fire has been going on for days.
During the evening, N1 television also published footage showing thick smoke over Belgrade, while Avala is barely visible from the direction of New Belgrade.
Blic also noted that the smell of smoke was intensely felt throughout the capital - in the center, Šumice, Vračar, New Belgrade, but also in Lyon, Mirijevo and Karaburma. Citizens described the smell as very strong, with reports that it seemed as if there was a fire in the immediate vicinity.
The fire in Deliblatska peščara, which broke out due to high temperatures and wind, spread over hundreds of hectares. Members of the Sector for Emergency Situations, voluntary fire brigades and "Vojvodinašume" were engaged in extinguishing the fire, while helicopters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs operated from the air.
At the same time, citizens reported a very strong smell in Pancevo as well.

The air is more polluted at certain measuring points
At the time when citizens complained about the smell, air quality data showed that the air was polluted at certain measuring stations in Belgrade, while it was assessed as moderate at most other locations.
At that time, pollution was registered, among others, in Krnjača, on Bulevar despot Stefana, in Jajinci, on Franche d'Epere, in Lazarevac, on Ada petlja, in Ugrinovačka Street in Zemun, Sopot, Rakovica and Danijelova.
Let us remind you that Deliblatska Peščara has been burning for the third day. More than 700 hectares were affected. Trees, low vegetation and grass were burnt. The army also got involved in extinguishing the fire. The population of Šumarak settlement was evacuated, and entry to other surrounding settlements is allowed only to those who put out fires.
