In recent months public prosecutors for organized crime are exposed to continuous pressure through public appearances President of the Republic of Serbia, representatives of the legislative and executive authorities, other actors of political life and certain media, announced the collegium of the Public Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime.
As stated in the announcement, the decisions and criminal proceedings initiated by this prosecutor's office are commented daily in an illegal manner in an attempt to exert undue influence on their outcome.
"The President of the Republic of Serbia and the executive and legislative authorities are trying in every possible way to subdue the Public Prosecutor's Office for organized crime, because the public prosecutors of this prosecutor's office have not and will not succumb to pressure and will continue, as before, to act in accordance with the laws and constitutional powers," the statement said.
As it is added, the public prosecutors of this prosecution work and will do their work professionally, equally to everyone and without anyone's influence, and the work of this prosecution must not be the subject of daily politics.
What caused the attack on JTOK?
The collegium of JTOK announced that from the moment when the Public Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime began the preliminary investigation in the "Canopy" and "General Staff" cases, and especially when evidence was gathered about the existence of reasonable suspicion that certain ministers in the Government of the Republic of Serbia abused their position to the detriment of all citizens, the media targeting of this prosecutor's office began, and then the obstruction of the actions of this prosecutor's office.
"Soon after the deprivation of liberty of the defendants in the 'Canopy' case, the obstruction of the work on this case began, as the director of the police, as well as the directors of the Tax Administration and the Directorate for the Prevention of Money Laundering, withdrew the consent given for the members of the Strike Group, refused to give consent for the appointment of new members, and despite our insistence and urgency, they did not and refuse to submit the evidence that the Strike Group had collected in the previous work, as well as to undertake all the required actions and measures from their jurisdiction", it is written, among other things, in the announcement.
As it is added, "this prosecutor's office is not and will not be a service of political interests, nor has it conducted, nor does it conduct, nor will it conduct proceedings according to the expectations of the President of the Republic of Serbia, representatives of the legislative and executive authorities or other political actors, and is not and will never be subject to flat and unfounded evaluations of the success of the work".
