Parents of students "Jovine" high school in Novi Sad they scheduled a protest for Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in front of the School of Mechanical Engineering, whose building is currently being used by their children.
The plan was for students who had a break at 5:30 p.m. to join the protest, but the school administration locked the building, so they students jumped out of the window. Director of "Jovina" gymnasium Radivoje P. Stojković first he stood in the hall behind the locked door, and then he came out in front of his parents and remained silent the whole time.
Danijela Grujić, the professor of "Jovina" high school, said that it was outrageous that the school administration, including students and teachers, locked themselves in the school.
She said that about an hour before the protest, during the big break, the decision of the School Board came that the increased security measures were introduced for the next short break "when the school will be locked and we will all be kept inside the school building".
"Causing a Potential Incident"
She added that with that decision, access to the school was prohibited for all third parties until the end of that day, with the explanation that it "protects the teaching process, safety and peace within the school".
"The opposite happened because the children were very upset, revolted and worried. It is paradoxical that the gathering of their parents, from whom they were separated, is called a security risk, which led to aggravation of the situation and caused a potential incident. Not to mention that a child could have been injured while jumping from the window," Grujić told N1.
She explained that the students first gathered in front of the entrance door to the school, but Principal Stojković was there, "defending the exit from the school with his body" and that because of this, students all over the corridor on the ground floor began to open windows and jump out of them.
"It should be noted that some unknown persons who were claimed to be private security from the Province were spotted in the school yard. I don't know if this is true, but we were really able to spot them in those moments," said Grujić.
He also adds that Principal Stojković visited some classrooms and verbally informed students and professors about the decision to ban and lock the school during the short break, which he previously sent to their emails.
"Some kind of unbalanced behavior"
Grujić described the professor's daily communication with director Stojković as "very scarce".
"He is mostly in his office when he comes to school, but he doesn't even come to school every day, or at least we don't know that. As for the teaching process, it is something minimal," Grujić explained.
When it comes to Stojković's going out in front of his parents and his silence, Grujuć assessed that it could be "some kind of unbalanced behavior".
"On the one hand, he takes care of security, which is why the school is being closed, and on the other hand, I'm sorry to say that, it seems to me that there was an attempt to cause an incident in the middle. If we take into account that in the past years, protest meetings were held in front of the School of Mechanical Engineering and that the school was never locked, although some protests were during classes, and sometimes not, then why is this whole show being performed after a year, as the students themselves have evaluated it on several occasions. it didn't happen, the students would go out together with the professors, they would be at the protest for five to 10 minutes and they would return to class. This is how the class was ruined until the end," Grujić said.
Asked if the allegations that the parents called the police are true, Grujić says that she heard that the police's response was that they "don't have a patrol."
"I know that even the children tried to call the police, because they were scared in that situation while they were locked in the school, but one policeman was present in the school hall. He was with the principal and assistant principals," said Grujic.

"Kneeling" director
Director Stojković gained special attention from the public when, in response to the fact that the graduates of the "Jovina" high school started a blockade of that school on December 16, 2024 - he knelt in the yard for four hours, and then in front of the school's front door.
During that time, he did not talk to the students, but only to the high school professors and the priest who had arrived in the meantime.
