Three days ago in Banjsko polje a two-year-old girl Danka Ilić disappeared near Bor, the search for her is still ongoing. The police announced to continue intensive operational work in order to establish all the facts and circumstances related to the child's disappearance.
The girl Danka Ilić disappeared on Tuesday at 13:45 p.m., she has brown hair, brown eyes and is about 85 centimeters tall.
The police, gendarmerie, Mountain Rescue Service, hunters and citizens were looking for the girl. And the "Find me" system was activated for the first time.
The president of the Center for Missing and Abused Children and one of the initiators of the introduction of the "Find Me" system, Igor Jurić, told "Vreme" that he was in contact with some members of the MUP yesterday, who told him that they had been withdrawn from that part of the field where the suspicion was that the girl is lost and that the investigation continues with some other operational methods - "the investigation itself is now going in a different direction".
He is of the opinion that it will give results, and what gives him optimism is that one circumstance of the disappearance has been ruled out.
"Now we have to be ready both as a nation and as people to be able to expect the worst news. Regardless, I still hope that there is a miracle that can bring the little girl back alive," says Jurić.
How the "Find Me" system worked
Part of the public criticizes the functioning of the "Find Me" system and wonders why the message did not arrive to everyone at the same time, why some did not receive it at all, and why they had to wait nine or ten hours in the evening to be notified by message when they had already learned the information through the media.
Jurić explains that this is a technical shortcoming, that is, the ability of mobile operators to send SMS messages to everyone at the same time, because the operator can deliver 50.000 SMS messages in one minute. Therefore, it is the capacity of some mobile operator and not all, some can be even less.
"Messages were sent successively precisely because of those technical possibilities. After all, 'the system didn't exist until yesterday', we don't need to make a drama out of it now because that's simply what we're working on. I said on several occasions even before this case happened that the system would be improved and that, as we knew from the start, it was a technical defect that we could not influence. It is up to the mobile operators, not the system itself", emphasizes our interlocutor.
When was the media notified?
Something around 19:XNUMX, when the system was activated and the media received the notification at the same moment.
"About 500 actors are in the system itself when talking about the media, mobile operators, bus and train stations, traffic and everything else," says Jurić.
He adds that he is very satisfied with the functioning itself and that the media, as far as he watched, interrupted the program every 30 minutes in the first eight hours, as was signed in the agreement.
He is of the opinion that in addition to criticism, people sometimes have to praise the effort that has been put in to improve a system, but that he is aware that this is a 'living thing' that needs to be reduced and improved, and that the fact is that a lot needs to be done correct and change what they knew at the time they tested the system.
-Are you working on it?
"Absolutely, from the moment when the system was introduced on October 25, we have been constantly writing to the MUP, we have also called Viber Rakuten several times and they were at a meeting, and the next one will be in 10 days where they will sign an agreement regarding the establishment and joining Viber as one of the factors in the system itself, and this will further facilitate the possibility of spreading the announcement, because it is written that 90 percent of mobile operator users have the Viber application on their device," emphasizes Jurić.
With whom everything is negotiated about inclusion in the system
He says that they are now working to get Meta, or rather the owners of Facebook and Instagram, to join, but they have a problem there because they do not have a responsible person in Serbia who could guarantee the protection of personal data and its withdrawal after the child is found.
"That's why they're still not part of the system." When we have a responsible person who will guarantee us that the child's data will be withdrawn immediately after the search is completed and will not be misused, then these social networks will also be included."
In addition to Meta, the idea is to include in the system advertising agencies that own electronic billboards, oil companies, gas stations...
Finally, concludes Jurić, it takes time for everything to be harmonized and for everything to function as they really want.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs, regarding the disappearance of the two-year-old girl Danka Ilić in Banjsko polje near Bor, appeals not to publish unverified and inaccurate information, as it jeopardizes the investigation, the aim of which is to find the girl as soon as possible.
