Employees Faculty of Philosophy in Niš, with the legal assistance of a lawyer, are preparing a lawsuit against Ministry of Education because of unpaid wages, said Jelena Lepojević, a professor at that faculty.
According to her, the necessary documentation is currently being collected.
As she stated, the employees have not yet been paid their salary for July, while the deadline for August salary payment expires on September 20, writes FoNet.
The problem with earnings followed in the context of a months-long dispute over the status of the Faculty of Philosophy in Niš and the separation of some of its departments.
In October 2025, the Government of Serbia initiated the process of separating the departments of history, Serbian studies, and Russian language and literature and connecting them to the new Faculty of Serbian Studies.
Such reorganization was opposed mainly by employees and students of the Faculty of Philosophy, who claimed that the procedure was illegal and politically motivated.
In the meantime, the Administrative Court postponed the execution of the decision of the Ministry of Education, which changed the permits for the work of the Faculty of Philosophy in Niš. Thus, practically, until the end of the court proceedings, the previous situation was restored.
An additional development of events followed on September 7, when the Senate of the University of Niš decided that the Faculty of Serbian Studies would not be admitted to the University.
