Senate University of Niš at the session held on Monday, he rejected the proposal that Faculty of Serbian Studies become part of that university, said professor of the Faculty of Philosophy Dušan Aleksić.
According to him, 15 members of the Senate voted for the entry of the Faculty of Serbian Studies into the University, while 22 votes were needed to make the decision.
Aleksić assessed that such an outcome, from the point of view of the employees at the Faculty of Philosophy in Niš, was the only decision that could have been made in accordance with the law, writes FoNet.
He pointed out that the very method of establishing the Faculty of Serbian Studies was illegal, which, as he stated, is also confirmed by the temporary measure passed by the court.
The dispute over the new faculty has been going on since October 2025, when the Government of Serbia initiated the process of separating three departments of the Faculty of Philosophy in Niš — history, Serbian studies, and Russian language and literature — and linking them to the new Faculty of Serbian Studies.
Employees and students of the Faculty of Philosophy mostly opposed the process, claiming that the separation was illegal and politically motivated.
In the meantime, the Administrative Court postponed the execution of the Ministry of Education's decision, which previously changed the licenses for the Faculty of Philosophy in Niš. Thus, while the court proceedings are ongoing, the previous situation has been temporarily restored: the Faculty of Philosophy's work permit for the aforementioned study programs is valid again, while the Faculty of Serbian Studies' work permit is temporarily denied.
Aleksić also spoke about the salaries of employees at the Faculty of Philosophy, stating that the Government of Serbia and the Ministry of Education have not yet paid the July salary. According to him, since July 20, employees have not been paid a single dinar.
