Situation at the fire sites in Deliblato Sands and on Mount Stolovi it is more favorable than in previous days, but firefighters and rescuers are still on duty in the field and continue to extinguish and soak the burned areas, RTS announced.
They are on duty in Deliblatska Peščara fire brigades they readily welcomed the announced unfavorable meteorological conditions. The night passed peacefully, and there were no new hotspots in the last 80 hours.
However, the strong wind is the biggest problem for the teams on the field. Košava is currently blowing at a speed of about 40 kilometers per hour, while meteorologists expect that gusts could reach 70 kilometers per hour.
Because of this, there is a high risk of re-inflammation of the existing hotspots, so the burned terrain is continuously soaked, both from the ground and from the air.
All settlements in the area are safe, and the lower night temperatures further contributed to the calming of the situation.
The fire at Stolovi has not yet been localized
On Mount Stolovi, the fire fight is still going on, although the situation is more favorable than in previous days. During the night there was no wind on the mountain, which made it easier for the teams on the ground to work.
Around 45 firefighters-rescuers, volunteer firefighters and workers of "Srbijašum", along with 10 fire trucks, were engaged in Stolovi today.
However, the fire that broke out on August 5 cannot be finally localized for the time being due to the steep and inaccessible terrain.
Crews therefore continue to work to bring the fire under control and prevent its further spread.
