Four major fires are currently being extinguished in Serbia - in Deliblato Sands, on Stolovi and in the part of Maglič below the Troglav mountain, as well as in the part of the municipality of Bojnik, the firefighters and officials announced.
Fighting with by fire element in Deliblatska peščara, it lasted throughout the night, and continued during the morning.
The most difficult was in the Municipality of Bela Crkva, around the villages of Grebenac, Šušara and Kajtasovo.
N1 reports that the fire, which threatened the villages of Grebenac, Kajtasovo and Truja naselje yesterday, has been localized, but thick smoke and fire can still be seen from the direction of Grebenac.
Since yesterday, the Russian plane "Ilyushin" has also been participating in extinguishing this fire, currently the largest active fire in Serbia, which has covered more than 3.500 hectares.
Voluntary fire brigades from all over Serbia arrived in Deliblatska peščara
Great help in extinguishing the fire in Deliblatska peščara is also provided by members of voluntary fire brigades who arrived from all over Serbia.
The fight against the fire in Deliblatska peščara lasted throughout the night, and the most difficult was in the municipality of Bela Crkva, in the vicinity of the villages of Grebenac, Šušara and Kajtasovo.
The firefighters managed to save those villages, and the Russian plane "Ilyushin" provided them with great help in extinguishing the fire.
632 volunteer firefighters responded to the call of the Serbian Fire Association and put all their resources and equipment at their disposal to extinguish the fire in Deliblatska peščara.
The head of the Department for Emergency Situations, Luka Čaušić, pointed out that volunteer firefighters are the real heroes, along with the firefighters-rescuers in the Department for Emergency Situations.
"Eight or nine years ago, we started building voluntary firefighting societies because it had almost died out, except in some areas due to the enthusiasm of certain people. We are very grateful to them. We still have to improve voluntary firefighting societies, we have to repay those people," Čaušić told RTS.
Vučić: 445 people engaged in firefighting
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said that 445 people were involved in extinguishing the fire in Deliblatska peščara, of which 189 belong to the fire and rescue units.
Vučić said that the firefighters participating in extinguishing the fire in Deliblatska Peščara have top-notch equipment, and that he is grateful to the Russian Federation for sending "Ilyushin" to Serbia, which helped especially the residents of Truja settlement, where thanks to the 21 tons of water that was thrown from the plane, "the fire was hit directly in the heart and it saved some 50 buildings, 50 weekend houses in Truja settlement".
The headquarters for emergency situations of the municipality of Bela Crkva declared a state of emergency in part of the territory of the municipality of Bela Crkva - Trujino naselje, Kajtasovo and Grebenac, due to a large fire in Deliblatska Peščara.
