The new EES system has been fully introduced at the external borders since April Of the European Union and it also applies to citizens Of Serbia. However, instead of speeding up border crossings, the new system created congestion.
Therefore, the European Union is introducing a new digital service, which could make it significantly easier for travelers to cross the border. It is about the "Travel to Europe" application, available for download via the Google Play and Apple Store platforms, which aims to reduce crowds and speed up procedures at border crossings. The problem is that it currently only works in two countries - Sweden and Portugal, writes RTS.
Passengers can now enter data in advance through the application, in order to speed up border crossing, and they look forward to the further expansion of the system, especially the inclusion of Greece, which is one of the most visited destinations for tourists from Serbia and the region.
Director of the National Association of Travel Agencies (Uta), Aleksandar Seničić, explains that the application speeds up the procedure because at least at the border, physical data entry is skipped - basic data, passport picture, personal photo, answers to basic questions - where we are going, how long we are staying and what is the purpose of the trip.
Even in that case, citizens must leave their fingerprints.
As for Greece, it is not yet known if the app is compatible with their software, but a final answer is expected by May 20.
He says that when it comes to the implementation of the EES system, citizens thought that they would only have to register once, but every time they cross the border they have to take a picture.
"The system controls the length of stay and we cannot expect to cross the border without control," Senicic said and added that there is no need to panic because the procedure was extended by approximately one minute. He also advises to use alternative, smaller border crossings.
