Interview: Siniša Vuković, professor at "Johns Hopkins" University
Political violence is changing its nature
"Divisions in the USA are no longer primarily based on disagreement over policies, but on deep animosity and mistrust towards the other party, which is dehumanized and seen as the main problem and not as a social factor with which to seek solutions to common problems. Supporters of one party not only disagree with the other party, but perceive it as immoral, unintelligent and fundamentally evil. When the political opponent is not seen as a legitimate competitor, but as an existential one threat, the existing rules of the democratic game not only lose their importance, but are replaced by radical measures"
